Woefully underrated and unrecognized but quite excellent and dripping with Southern character and appealingly underscored with folk inferences, the debut album by .38 Special is a much less diluted and more purely raw blend of folkish, countrified Southern boogie, free of the MOR formulaic rock tendencies that later would be associated with their sound.
