Bill Wolfer’s debut album Wolf is an unexpected hit featuring some of the greatest artists to ever do it including Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Finis Henderson, and Jon Gibson. At the time, Wolfer was a young session musician who played keyboards and synthesizers on a few of the year’s biggest records including Stevie Wonder’s Hotter Than July and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” There are a bunch of amazing songs on this one, but B2 “Wake Up” might take the cake for this writer with its incredibly funky fretless bassline and smooth, Stevie Wonder-esque vocals from future gospel star Jon Gibson.
