Special UK Country Rock edition!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Keep On Chooglin’ series is inspired by great compilations like Country Got Soul, Delta Swamp Rock and Country Funk.
This little compilation however came together when I heard Across The Great Divide - Getting It Together In The Country 1968-1974 - a 3-CD box that compiled 64 artifacts from the first era of British country rock. The best of these tracks find a new home on Keep On Chooglin’ #37. Plus a lot more that did not appear on said compilation.
After the summer of love in 1967 things in the USA changed from psychedelia to country rock. Bob Dylan started it with John Wesley Harding (1967), The Band released Music From Big Pink (1968) and Sweetheart of The Rodeo by The Byrds appeared in the same year. 1969 saw the debuts of Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Flying Burrito Brothers. And even the Grateful Dead went country on Workingman’s Dead (1970). And this is just the tip of the iceberg. All these records had a profound influence on what happened in the UK afterwards.
The Love Rustler recommends: “Pour yourself a drink and keep on chooglin’!”
