liner notes by Nigel Cross
The Misunderstood were one of the most innovative and forward-thinking bands to emerge from the American garage rock scene in the mid-'60s. Boasting a forceful sound informed by blues, soul, and the harder-edged material from the first wave of the British Invasion, the Misunderstood sounded bolder than nearly any of their peers. They also had a unique lead guitarist in Glenn Ross Campbell, who played a pedal steel guitar rather than a traditional six-string instrument, and he enriched his souped-up blues licks with glissandos and tonal sweeps that suggested the sound of another world when he was in full flight.
