Rita Coolidge was part of the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. This brought her into contact with Leon Russell, who used her as a backing singer on various recordings. In 1971, she signed with A&M and immediately recorded a classic with her debut album – entitled Rita Coolidge. Nice Fellin' and This Lady's Not For Sale followed directly. In the studio, she consistently had top-class help (Marc Benno, Al Kooper, Booker T., The Dixie Flyers), and the songs always came from other artists. She wasn't involved in the songwriting, but her voice shines here. Many of the songs on the albums are very ballad-like andslow... For this reason, I've condensed the first three LPs down to what I consider to be the best tracks.
